The Bath House is a charitable not-for-profit, voluntary sector children's centre that offers a range of childcare services on our premises in Hackney. The Bath House was set up in December 2000 by a group of parents and childcare workers to provide high quality childcare and activities for children.
It is a non-profit making organisation run by a management committee and a company limited by guarantee (no. 04132678) and a registered charity (no.1089829). The Project Director, Maggie Norwood, has managed play centres in Hackney since 1991.
The Bath House offers a range of childcare for children from 12 months to 11 years
The Bunnies from 12 months to 2 years,
The Rainbow 2-3 years,
The Lilac 3-5 years.
Admission is operated on a first-come first-served basis although siblings have priorty. You can join our waiting list by filling in a registration form. Please note that we do not offer visits to our Nursery until you are high up on the waiting list. New admissions are in September. To enter the Bunnies group your child must be 1 years old by the 31st August. We do not usually admit children at other times in the year. Our waiting list is very long so register at the earliest opportunity but we do not register unborn children. We begin to allocate September's intake in May/June. You can contact us in June/July to see where your child is on our waiting list. Please contact us by email and update your details with us if you change your email or phone number. We offer a personal visit when your child is high enough on our waiting list to possibly be offered a place.
The Nursery is divided into three age groups each with a dedicated staff team:
- The Nursery offers year round care (47 weeks) and also offers part-week and short day options.
- The Rainbow and Lilac groups also have term-time attendance only options (38 weeks following school terms).
- If children are booked in for term time only, additional days can be booked during holidays if there is space.
Holiday care is provided in all school holidays, except Christmas, for Reception aged children to 11 years -9.00 to 6.00 daily.
- See some of the art work the after school and holiday club has produced at www.kidscreatebathhouse.tumblr.com
The Bath House receives funding to subsidise a number of nursery places for parents on low income. The total family income must be below £25000 per year, and families must be residents of Hackney. Availability and amount of this funding will depend on the total number of families claiming funding.
Parents are encouraged to explore the possibilities of fees assistance through Tax Credits.
The Bath House is based in a former public council bath house, which was purchased by the Bath House from Hackney Council in April 2002. The Bath House is an attractive premises all on one level, with lantern light roof windows, spacious play rooms, and an exciting outdoor play area. The Bunnies group (ages 1-2 years) have their own outdoor play area.
Our equal opportunities policy extends to staff recruitment, training, admissions, resources and play facilities, and all aspects of the Bath House Management and administration.
The safety and security of your child is our priority concern. All staff have completed police checks, and senior staff are highly qualified and experienced. Junior staff and trainees are supervised in their work. All staff are trained and qualified in childcare and have safeguarding of children training.
Special Educational Needs
Children with special educational needs are welcomed in the nursery and out-of-school care.
The Bath House works in partnership with parents to maintain a high standard of childcare.
