Rainbow Group
For children from 2 to 3 years old

The Bath House offers a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children learn through creative play and are responded to as individuals. The children at the Bath House have strong relationships with staff and are listened to and valued. Children talk of their excitement about attending the Bath House and have a strong sense of ownership and control over the activities they take part in. Parents are welcomed, and able to approach staff with any concerns they have, and parents feel happy and confident to leave their children in our care.

Staff child ratio is at least 1 to 4 and all our staff are qualified in childcare.

In Rainbow Group we recognise the growing independence of our children, along with the continuing need for close relationships with their familiar adults and secure attachments.
It is a very active time, much moving and transporting of toys and resources, and the desire to explore using all the senses. Our skilled and caring staff team respond to the exploratory needs of the group, their increasing physical development, and amazing curiosity!

The children’s growing interest in each other, the early stages of making friends and playing in a group are fostered and supported by our team, using some smaller group activities to promote more sustained language development and social interactions. Learning the important skills of sharing, taking turns, waiting and finding their voice, are all encouraged and supported by the team.

Their changing physical needs are also met, by working with parent/carers to establish individual toileting plans when they are ready to do so, and also suitable sleeping arrangements. Meal and snack times are enjoyed at cosy small tables, with adults promoting positive eating experiences, trying some new foods, and a reassuring ‘family’ atmosphere in which to eat.

Activities
The daily routine is a mixture of open ended ‘free-play’ activities, some adult-led small group times, and the very important practical elements of toileting, eating and sleeping!
Some daily activities would include;
  • ‘messy play’-pasta/shaving foam/sand/water/paint, feeling and mixing a range of materials
  • Small world toys and construction for creative building
  • Singing and dancing using instruments and sound system, Yoga and exercise routines, having lots of fun together!
  • Cooking activities-making bread/smoothies/snacks, sharing and taking turns with ingredients
  • Open ended and natural materials, to promote imaginative play and discovery
  • Outdoor play-running and circle games, bikes and scooters, bat and ball, water/sand play
  • Experiencing different cultures through trips to the local market, shopping for different fruits and vegetables, and cooking
  • Story time- using books and CD’s
  • Snacks and meal times–children and staff enjoy food and chatting together, encouraging independent eating and drinking
  • Sleep time-children are given the chance to unwind, rest and sleep when they need to.
  • Support in learning to use the toilet, and developing self-care skills, dressing, putting on shoes
Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the government framework and standards that informs all early years childcare. At the Bath House we work within the EYFS to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child's welfare, learning and development.
Records are kept of each child's progress in all these areas of development, and they will be made available to the parents/carers each term. Parents will have a one to one interview with the key worker twice each year.
